Tie to Fly is a cool and rustic looking tie! I’m very pleased with this design for a hand knitted tie as I’m really attracted to accessories with nice details – for men as well as others! This tie has the same dimensions and details as a classic tie and I find it to be both classic, retro and different to mainstream. And I’m certain that soon hand knitted ties will become fashion!
Techniques and difficulty rating
The tie is knitted in the round from the top down in a slip stitch pattern using one strand of Luna by Permin. You must know, or be willing to learn, how to cast on, increase and decrease. The slips stitch pattern consists of knit stitches, and some of them are slipped with the yarn in front or back. There is no seaming apart from weaving in ends.
I provide a serial of tutorials to support you along the way with the different techniques.
The tie is worked on 2.5 mm needles, so you’ll train your fine motor skills and patience. The project is suitable for bringing along when commuting as you’ll quickly memorize the slip stitch pattern.
I’m certain the tie will become a dear friend of your wardrobe and be worn for generations. Don’t we all need a hand knitted tie, by the way?
Sizes
The ties comes in one size for adults, however, I provide instructions on how to customize the tie to fit your preferences.
Tension
Slip stitch pattern: 30 sts/10 cm and 52 rows/10 cm on needle size 2,5 mm.
Yarn
The yarn is Luna from by Permin. It is made from 100 % recycled wool and is OEKO-TEX certified. It runs 175 m per 50 g and comes in many beautiful colours. You’ll need two skeins. The yarn is soft and slightly firmer than most wool yarns, a feature which renders a firmer fabric and interesting tactility.
Remember to make a swatch to ensure you get the right size of the tie.
The pattern is available in Danish and English. Upon purchasing, you receive an e-mail with a link to the pattern in both languages.
